“Stories create community and enable us to see through the eyes of others." - Peter Forbes
As educators and parents, we want our children to become skillful, wise, and kind. We want our children to develop a strong sense of self, understand the world around them and make it a better place. We want them to connect with one another, learn empathy, and lead richer and fuller lives. For these reasons and so many more, we want our children to be readers.
We are all readers. We are all storytellers.
Stories are mirrors and windows to the world. They reveal to us who we are and what we want to become.
Stories comfort us, teach us, and allow us to teach others. They connect us to one another.
When we read the same story, we share an experience that brings us closer. A connection is made; a bond is formed. This is the idea behind Plainfield Reads.
Throughout October, our entire Plainfield community - all students, teachers and parents - will go on a journey together. We will read one book as one school. Which book? Not yet.
Stay tuned as much more information will be coming soon. In the meantime, if you have a book suggestion, I would love to hear from you.
